Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s new extraction mode, DMZ, is experiencing server issues, causing players to lose newly earned loot.

Yesterday, Infinity Ward put its new extraction mode into early access ahead of MW4’s full release on Friday. It’s giving players a chance to mess around with the game’s other offerings before the main course is unleashed, and while the reception has been glowing so far, there are some issues. The game’s been having server crashes, casuing to players lose any loot they picked up.
Thankfully, any loot that you already extracted to the FOB and brought back into the DMZ as part of a loadout is safe, but anything you picked up during the run that you were booted from is lost. Infinity Ward claims the matter has been fixed and has confirmed what players will keep and lose.

“Players who disconnected due to this particular issue will retain the equipment they started the match with and their subsequent progression, but not the loot collected during the match,” devs said in an update on Twitter/X.

Some players are still reporting problems, so your mileage may vary. Of course, it’s difficult to ensure everything that a player had when they were booted is safe. If that were the case, it could theoretically be abused by players to extract valuable loot without having to actually find an extraction zone. Still, if you found something extremely rare or valuable and lost it due to technical issues, it would be extremely frustrating.
Black Ops 7’s Endgame mode had similar issues when it launched last year. The PvE extraction mode encouraged players to grind for rewards, but if you died or failed to extract, you would lose everything. Unfortunately, that also applied to crashes during the game’s first few days. This was eventually fixed, but it was an agonizing first impression for anyone who spent hours grinding the game, only for it to be undone by something out of your control.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s full release will hit on October 23. The game’s acclaimed campaign and DMZ modes are available to play now for owners of the title.
