The Mojang team took center stage at TwitchCon Europe today, unveiling a lineup of upcoming features for Minecraft that promise to keep players engaged for months to come. The special edition Minecraft Live broadcast highlighted the highly anticipated Chaos Cubed update, teased the next content drop, discussed the forthcoming Minecraft movie, and offered a glimpse into other exciting developments.
After a teaser at the previous Minecraft Live in March, the Chaos Cubed update now has a confirmed release date: June 16, 2026. The update will introduce sulfur caves and a brand‑new physics‑based cube mob, adding fresh exploration and combat dynamics to the game.
In addition to Chaos Cubed, Mojang teased a forthcoming content update later in the year. While the update’s title remains undisclosed, it will feature a new biome called The Dappled Forest.
The Dappled Forest will appear in the overworld as an autumn‑themed landscape, showcasing poplar trees with vivid foliage and red shrubs as decorative plant blocks. Players will also encounter abandoned camps scattered throughout the biome, complete with tents, campfires, lamps, chests, and crafting benches. Notably, the tents are constructed from Wool Stairs, revealing a novel use for the block and opening up new creative possibilities for builders.
During a later segment of the livestream, Mojang officially announced the title of the upcoming Minecraft film sequel: A Minecraft Movie Squared. The studio also revealed that actress Kirsten Dunst will join the cast, portraying the character Alex.
The film is slated for a summer 2027 release, marking a significant addition to the franchise’s cinematic timeline.
In addition to the cinematic news, Mojang introduced the “Minecraft Movie Build Challenge.” Participants who win will have the opportunity to see their in‑game creation featured in the film, along with a private screening of the final product.
