After a fourteen-year hiatus since the launch of its first Windows on ARM Surface with an NVIDIA chip, which was met with disappointing results, Microsoft is making another attempt. At Computex 2026, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra, their most powerful Surface to date, powered by NVIDIA’s new RTX Spark, the recently announced ARM processor for Windows on ARM.
While Microsoft is yet to disclose comprehensive details, they claim that the Surface Laptop Ultra boasts the title of the most powerful laptop with an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX graphics and up to 128GB of unified memory, akin to modern MacBooks equipped with their M Series processors. In terms of performance, Microsoft guarantees up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and GPU performance on par with the RTX 5070, coupled with up to 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU cores. Furthermore, Microsoft and NVIDIA highlight exceptional CPU efficiency for extended battery life.
The Surface Laptop Ultra has been designed meticulously from the ground up, with input from mechanical, electrical, thermal, acoustic, materials, industrial design, and software engineers from day one. The internal architecture and external form have been crafted as a single system, reflecting the same attention to detail that users bring to their work, where every micron matters and each decision is deliberate.
The device is slated to hit the market later this year, joining a wave of RTX Spark‑powered machines from industry giants such as ASUS, Dell, Lenovo, HP, and MSI.
