Xbox Exclusives Return: Microsoft Unveils New Titles – Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution

In a significant shift, Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase, marking the gaming brand’s 25th anniversary under the leadership of the new CEO Asha Sharma, has announced that Xbox games are revertising to their original release methods. During the livestream, Sharma herself declared the return of Xbox console exclusives.

Two significant upcoming titles from first-party studios will be exclusive to Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PCs – Gears of War: E-Day from The Coalition and Clockwork Revolution from InExile. These exclusives will not be available on PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, as confirmed by Microsoft.

Analysis: This move signifies a strategic shift in the console war, potentially strengthening Xbox's position while limiting Sony's access to popular titles.

Microsoft clarified that these exclusives are not timed exclusives and the company is committed to investing in and growing Xbox both on console and beyond.

Interestingly, any already announced Xbox titles for PlayStation, under previous leadership, will still be released for the rival platform. This means games like the new Halo remake, Forza Horizon 6, Fable, and State of Decay 3 will still be available on PlayStation, either at launch or later.

Initiating a significant shift in the gaming landscape, Microsoft paved the way by introducing titles such as Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles in 2024. Since then, virtually every new game release from Xbox Game Studios has been made available on rival consoles concurrently with Xbox and PC.

This strategic move mirrors Sony’s intentions to phase out its own multiplatform releases. Beyond multiplatform live service titles, the PlayStation manufacturer is even discontinuing its long-standing efforts in porting games to PC that commenced years ago.
