Metal Gear Solid 4 Port Footage Confirms iPod & Playboy Collabs

Konami has unveiled the first glimpse of the highly anticipated modern remake of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, confirming that several iconic in‑game product cameos will make a return.

The title will be included in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2, slated to launch on August 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC.

During a nearly hour‑long Japanese livestream on Sunday, Konami showcased the first official instance of the game running on hardware other than its original PlayStation 3.

The broadcast also highlighted familiar licensed items from the original, such as the iPod accessory that allowed players to stream music and podcasts within the game world.

In a fleeting yet memorable moment, Snake is seen picking up a Playboy magazine—an item originally used in the classic title to lure enemies by dropping it on the battlefield.

The return of iconic brands such as iPod and Playboy in the contemporary port hints that other well‑known product placements might also survive, including Mountain Dew, Walkman, Doritos, Uniqlo, and more.

However, one notable change is expected in the non‑PlayStation releases: references to the PS3, such as the DualShock controller that Snake uses to operate his gadgets, will likely be removed or replaced.

The upcoming MGS Master Collection Vol. 2 will feature both Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, along with the 2000 Game Boy title Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel. Each title will be accompanied by a scenario book reproducing the original text, as well as a master book offering in‑depth analysis of the narrative and characters.

Transferring Metal Gear Solid 4 to platforms beyond the PlayStation 3 proved daunting, thanks to the console’s distinctive architecture and the era’s reliance on hefty BD‑ROM discs capable of holding up to 54 GB of data.

Konami announced that players who own any title from the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will receive exclusive in‑game items that can be used in both Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
