Great discussion so far, but I want to push back a bit on the assumption that raw FPS is the main variable here. With rollback, what actually matters is frame pacing consistency, not peak performance. Rollback works by predicting your opponent’s inputs and rewinding frames when the network data arrives, so if your renderer is dropping micro-stutters—say spiking from 16ms to 24ms on a 60Hz display—you’re going to feel that hitch as a rubber-band snap right when a rollback happens. I’ve benchmarked this extensively: a stable 144fps locked with tight frame times will feel measurably smoother and more responsive than an unlocked 200+fps session that fluctuates between 90 and 240. Lock your framerate, enable VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) to eliminate tearing without adding the input lag of traditional vsync, and make sure your GPU isn’t thermally throttling mid-match. The single biggest hardware win is actually CPU single-thread performance, since rollback input handling and the game’s prediction loop are heavily serialized—so prioritize a strong single-core chip over throwing more cores at it.

On the input postponing side, which a lot
