Great question mate. From an architectural standpoint, here is how this actually works.

The reason micro-LED looks so much better on paper than OLED comes down to the light source itself. OLEDs use organic materials that degrade over time – that’s your burn-in problem with static HUD elements, and it’s a real limitation, not marketing. Micro-LEDs use inorganic compound semiconductors that don’t have that degradation pathway, so they can push way higher brightness without cooking themselves. That higher brightness ceiling is the key insight most people miss.

Now the response time claim – here’s the honest breakdown. The 0.28ms GtG isn’t magic, it’s a side effect. Because micro-LED pixels switch on and off almost instantaneously compared to LCD liquid crystal reorientation, you get near-zero ghosting. But the more important thing for competitive play is the input lag figure. If a panel is genuinely hitting 0.45ms input lag at 360Hz, you’re looking at roughly a 4-5ms advantage over a 240Hz LCD across the full frame cycle. In a Major where peeks are decided by milliseconds, that’s real, but for most of us on casual competitive it’s going to feel like a wash.

The thermal management is where micro-LED separates from the crowd. Those panels use DLC (diamond-like carbon) heat spreaders under the panel to junction temperatures stay under 45°C even under sustained load. That’s why they don’t burn in – the thermal design actively keeps the chips in a safe range. OLEDs have no equivalent, which is exactly why they’re the burn-in prone ones.

Bottom line: if you’re chasing the absolute edge and play a lot, micro-LED is legitimately the future and the burn-in resistance alone makes it worth it. But if you’re on a budget right now, your 240Hz OLED is still better than anything most people can access, and micro-LED monitors at 360Hz are still early and pricey. My take? Wait for prices to drop, but don’t sell out your OLED yet – the tech gap is real but not urgent.
