Great topic, and I’ve been chasing this exact issue on my 27″ 240Hz mini-LED since we moved to competitive Valorant. Short version: the pure local dimming processing latency is usually not the real problem—it’s typically measured at 1-3ms on top of the panel’s native response, which you won’t even notice at 240Hz. What actually wrecks gameplay is the dimming algorithm’s reaction lag to fast-moving bright objects, creating those dark halo/blooming artifacts around crosshairs and muzzle flashes. With a 1000+ zone

Hey everyone, quick follow-up to close this out: I finally dug into the BIOS and turned off the “Above 4G Decoding” /Resizable BAR toggle (plus reset the primary GPU to PCIe Gen4 instead of letting it auto-negotiate Gen5), and the dropped frames completely stopped. Turns out my RX 7800 XT was tripping into some weird fallback state with Smart Access Memory when the system was trying to negotiate link speeds during heavy asset streaming, causing those micro-stutters I was seeing every ~10 minutes. Following the advice in this thread to lock the PCIe link and disable ReBAR until I could test more carefully was the fix. Thanks for all the help sorting through the failure modes—super glad I didn’t end up swapping hardware unnecessarily!
