The TPM then records those measurements into Platforma Configuration Registers (PCRs) — you get an immutable, cryptographically sealed log of what actually ran. Anti-cheat systems like EAC and BE read those PCR values and compare them against a known-good reference manifest, so if someone hot-swaps a driver or boots an unsigned OS, the hashes won’t match and the process gets flagged. The real question in competitive play isn’t “does it detect cheating” but “does it create a fair, reproducible baseline” — and that’s where attestation gets messy.
Where I’d push the discussion is the next-gen architectural tension: attestation is only as trustworthy as the keys enrolled in the firmware, and we’ve already seen that flaw play out. If an OEM ships a private key that’s leaked or compromised (we saw this with the Secure Boot key drama a few years back), every machine from that vendor is poisoned and there’s no clean rollback short of revoking keys via dbx. For esports specifically, the interesting direction is remote attestation over a secure channel (think PCK/CIX certificates and Attestation CA infra)
