The biggest misunderstanding I keep seeing is that mesh shaders just “replace the vertex shader”—they actually dismantle the entire fixed-function geometry stage. With a task shader dispatching workgroups, you’re no longer feeding vertices through a fixed pipeline where each triangle gets re-interpolated from the same per-vertex attributes. Instead you write directly into shared memory (in mesh shaders, that’s the local invocation shared memory or LDMEM on RDNA/Kepler-class hardware), build your triangles from a meshlet buffer, and emit them. The payoff isn’t just lower CPU overhead from fewer draw calls—it’s that you stop

The first thing I’d push back on in this thread is the assumption that tweaking NVIDIA drivers is where you’ll win DPC latency races—most of your real gains come from eliminating rogue kernel-mode drivers, not shader settings. Run LatencyMon with your exact in-game profile, not a desktop idle test, because that’s where the offenders show up. In my testing across three rigs, the usual culprits are network drivers (especially Realtek and some Intel NICs), storage controllers running outdated drivers, and RGB/software suites like iCUE or Armoury Crate hooking into the stack. Disable anything you don’t actively use, set your network adapter’s Interrupt Moderation off, and pin your game to a dedicated core with Process Lasso. The difference in 1% lows is measurable, but only if you’re actually chasing the specific driver throwing the spike, not just applying a “gaming” driver as a band-aid.

On the Windows kernel side, you’re better off chasing consistency than raw numbers. Turn off Hyper-Threading if you’re on a Ryzen 5000 or older—AMD’s thread splitting can actually hurt here, unlike Intel where it’s more neutral for competitive titles. Disable Windows Пошук indexing during sessions, lock your CPU state to 100% so power management never drops clocks mid-round, and make sure your GPU’s own power management
