For the channel itself, I’d strongly avoid raw named pipes without hardening—most IPC breaches come from weak access control, not broken crypto. On Windows, use a named pipe with a tightly-scoped SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR that grants access only to the game’s well-known SDDL string and restricts it to the SYSTEM + the authenticated user token. Wrap it in an authenticated session: the anti-cheat service should verify the client’s integrity level (process at High/Protected level) and bind the connection to a per-session LUID so a lower-privilege attacker can’t impersonate the client over a shared pipe. I’ve seen teams skip this and then wonder why a local malware hook could talk to the anti-cheat directly. If you’re cross-platform, LocalSockets (Unix domain sockets) with SO_PEERCRED for peer credential verification is the Linux equivalent, and it gives you SO_PASSCRED-based auth for free.

On the payload layer, always frame messages with an explicit length prefix plus a MAC, never trust length from the socket—unbounded reads are the classic overflow path. Use an authenticated encryption scheme like AES-GCM or ChaCha20-Poly1305 with per-session keys derived from an ephemeral handshake (X25519 is a solid pick); never send plaintext game state

Great topic. The key thing people miss is that 8000Hz polling isn’t free—it’s fundamentally an interrupt-driven architecture, so you’re now asking

Honestly disagree with that take. Virtual 7.1 widens the soundstage and separates rear audio cues better on wide gaming headsets.
