Great topic. The real paradigm shift with Hall Effect (HE) switches isn’t just “no physical contact = no wear,” though that matters for longevity. The fundamental change is that you’ve decoupled key registration from a fixed mechanical landing point. With a traditional Cherry MX-style mechanism, actuation and reset happen at fixed physical positions on the spring travel curve, so your fastest possible reset is gated by the key having to physically return to the actuation point. Magnetic switches read the magnet position via the Hall sensor continuously, so the firmware can define actuation and reset anywhere along that travel.
