Everyone goes down the rabbit hole of removing telemetry services thinking it’ll shave latency, but the honest truth is that service stripping barely moves the needle on input lag — what actually destroys frametime consistency is background I/O and CPU scheduling contention, not the number of services running. If you’re going to strip, be surgical: disable Telemetry (CortanaDataCollector), Download Modes, and the Delivery Optimization service, but leave Windows Update itself and the WaaSMedicSvc alone, because breaking update can leave you on a bad driver build that tanks your GPU scheduler. The real edge case nobody talks about is anti-cheat — Vanguard, FaceIT, and EAC will flat-out refuse to boot on a compromised image, and a half-stripped registry can break them in subtler ways that don’t error, they just silently fail auth. Keep the Print Spooler and Bluetooth services if you use wireless peripherals, because their drivers live in the same stack your mouse polling depends on, and removing them creates dependency chains that surface as random USB disconnects two weeks later.
