Great topic. The core misunderstanding I keep seeing is that OLED and Fast IPS are debugging against completely different failure modes, so applying IPS logic to an OLED panel just confuses the issue. On OLED, pixel transitions are genuinely near-instant (0.1ms-ish) because you’re driving organic subpixels with voltage rather than physically twisting liquid crystals, so there’s essentially no overdrive curve to tune and no ghosting to hunt. The real failure modes are ABL (auto-brightness limiting) kicking in during darker scenes, which drops luminance mid-game and can make a 240Hz panel feel sluggish by contrast, plus dark-scene banding and the pixel-shifting/relocating routines that show up as momentary artifacts. Fast IPS, on the other hand, lives or dies by GDOV overdrive tuning — the classic failure mode is overshoot creating white halos or inverse ghosting (the trailing edge brightening) around moving objects,

Here’s the thing most people get backwards on throttling: throttling isn’t triggered by ambient or case temperature, it’s driven by the junction-to-interface gradient. The core equation is Q = ΔT / Rth_total, where Q is the power being dumped (watts), ΔT is the temperature differential across the thermal stack, and Rth_total is the sum of every resistance in series — junction-to-die-spreader, spreader-to-package, package-to-TIM, TIM
