Great topic for the off-season. The key difference between paracord and bungee comes down to how each manages the two competing forces in a competitive setup: cable weight on the mousepad versus spring tension lifting the cable off it. Paracord cables (typically 1.2 to 1.8g per meter for the woven variety) eliminate the stiff “hockey stick” effect you get from rubber-insulated cables because the braided nylon shell has a much lower bend modulus, so the cable follows your hand’s arc instead of resisting acceleration changes. The tradeoff is that paracord still drags along the pad surface, so friction becomes your enemy—on a hard pad you’ll feel the drag during fast flicks, whereas a cloth pad absorbs it nicely. Bungee setups solve this entirely by using a coiled spring segment that keeps the entire run of cable suspended in the air, so there’s zero surface friction and zero weight on the sensor during play. My only caveat with bungees is tuning the spring tension correctly: too tight and you get unwanted pull-back force that fights your micro-adjustments, too loose and you reintroduce the “sag” that causes cable slap on the pad during large sweeping motions.

For benchmarking, I’d stop relying purely on subjective feel and actually measure it
