Great topic, and honestly one that gets glossed over in most review roundups. The key thing most people miss is that local dimming latency isn’t a single number—it’s split across modes. On the panels I’ve measured (mostly the 24″ 240Hz mini-LEDs), “Standard” and “High” dynamic dimming modes reliably add 1–3 frames of input lag compared to the dimming-off setting, because the SoC has to buffer a frame, run the zone-brightness algorithm, then write the next frame. I clocked roughly 4.2ms of extra latency on the “High” setting at 240Hz, which is meaningful when you’re already running a 4.17ms frame budget. “Low” and “Maximum Brightness” modes are usually near-zero because they use coarser, cheaper zone logic. My recommendation for competitive FPS play is dimming off or on “Low” and just accept lower peak contrast—motion clarity and consistent input latency will always beat HDR pop in a ranked session.
