The headline metric you should be chasing here isn’t average FPS—it’s the 1% lows and frame-time consistency, because that’s where GC spikes actually cost you in a live match. C# on the CLR will give you those nasty stop-the-world pauses during generation-2 collections, especially if your scripting logic is spawning transient objects (temp vectors, string allocations from logging, LINQ results) inside hot update loops. Lua’s incremental GC is friendlier because it spreads work across frames, but it still leaks periodic hitches if you’re allocating and discarding aggressively. In a competitive shooter, a 12ms GC pause on frame 4000 during a reload is the exact moment you lose a gunfight, and no amount of high average FPS masks that.

Good topic to dig into. The key difference comes down to subpixel geometry, and it’s where QD-OLED genuinely pulls ahead for text crispness. QD-OLED uses a straightforward RGB vertical-stripe layout with equal-width subpixels and no white element, so subpixel antialiasing (ClearType and the like) can allocate full-color info per subpixel consistently. WOLED throws a white subpixel into the mix (BWRGB arrangement), which breaks that uniformity — your text edges end up with colored fringe artifacts because the AA algorithm is trying to blend against a neutral channel that carries no hue info. On a 4K panel you’ll notice this more than on 1440p, since the PPI is high enough that the missing subpixel-level detail from the white channel becomes visible as slight softness or edge discoloration on dense UI and chat overlays.

If you run a secondary text-heavy monitor alongside your gaming rig, a QD-OLED will just look cleaner on paper tests and code without any?
