Rollback netcode lives or dies on frame pacing, not raw bandwidth, so when you’re benchmarking you need to stop obsessing over ping numbers and start watching your frame-time consistency. The GGPO-style algorithm speculatively renders frames locally and rolls back to reconcile incoming opponent input, which means a steady 5ms frame time at 200fps is far more playable than a jittery 144Hz signal that drops to 8ms spikes. What kills a rollback match is inconsistent frame delivery, because each rollback needs to land exactly on a frame boundary—if your CPU stalls or your GPU dips mid-round the rollback window expands and you get that awful rubberbanding feel where your inputs land a frame late. In my testing on Street Fighter 6, the single biggest variable was CPU single-thread latency, not GPU power; the engine is heavily single-core bound and any IPC hiccup shows up immediately as input desync on the opponent’s screen.
