Honestly, the “OLED = instant, IPS = always behind” framing oversimplifies the actual physics at play. OLED pixels switch states via electroluminescence—essentially sub-millisecond, like 0.03ms on Samsung’s latest G-series—which is genuinely unachievable by any LCD because you’re physically rotating crystals through liquid. But here’s where the competitive crowd gets burned: OLED’s dark-to-light inverse ghosting is a real artifact, especially on dark textures against dark backgrounds, because the sub-ms fall time outruns the rise time. Fast IPS with aggressive overdrive gets you to ~1ms GTG easily and can push lower, but you pay for it with overshoot—those white halos trailing bright objects on dark backgrounds. The trick with overdrive is that it’s a per-transition LUT curve, so vendors tune highlight response conservatively to avoid the bloom, which means real-world motion clarity in a fast FPS is often comparable. For pure tracking, a well-tuned 240/360Hz IPS and a 360/480Hz OLED land you in the same perceptual bucket; the OLED just does it with
