VRS Tier 2 (per-shading-rate) is the most granular tier, but honestly it’s usually a net negative in CS2 and Valorant for competitive play. Those titles are CPU-bound at high framerates on the 7800X3D, so your bottleneck isn’t pixel shading—it’s single-core latency and tick-rate simulation. Dropping shading rates on the whole frame steals cycles from the render pipeline and can introduce frame pacing hiccups that feel worse than the FPS you gain. In a 128-tick/64-tick environment where tracking and flick shots matter, you want the cleanest possible signal, not a GPU optimization that trades visual fidelity for marginal frame time gains you won’t actually feel in-game.

If you’re going to experiment, do it at the driver level (NVIDIA Shader Shading Rate) rather than in-engine, and only apply coarse shading to the periphery, not the center of the screen where your crosshair lives. The foveated trick only works if you’re using eye-tracking to keep the foveal zone full-rate, and most competitive shooters don’t ship with that integration anyway. Benchmarks on the Neo G8 at 4K 240Hz are misleading here—you’re pushing 4K through a 4080 Super, but competitive titles run best at 1080p or 1440p specifically to keep frametimes low and polling consistent. At 4K you’re GPU-saturated, which is exactly the scenario where VRS looks good on paper but adds input latency you’ll notice in ranked.

My recommendation: disable VRS entirely for CS2 and Valorant, keep your 7800X3D in Performance mode, run RAM at 6000 CL30 with low timing, and prioritize a stable 300+ FPS with sub-10ms frame pacing instead. Save VRS for story-driven single-player titles where you won’t feel the difference on a 240Hz panel.

Honestly disagree with that take. Paying $70 to be an unpaid beta tester for a stuttering mess is madness; wait 6 months for 50% discount and fixed DLC.
