Brandon WrightMemberThe foundation of any solid rollback implementation really comes down to deterministic simulation—if the same input at the same frame doesn’t always produce identical state across both clients, everything else falls apart. I’ve seen people over-engineer the prediction layer while ignoring that the engine needs to be fully deterministic, which is exactly why most mature fighters swap floating-point math for fixed-point or integer arithmetic and lock their physics/tick rate. The rollback window itself is where you make your real design tradeoffs: 6 frames is the sweet spot for most competitive titles because it covers typical LAN-to

Brandon WrightMemberSolid topic. The core issue nobody talks about enough is that IEMs sit roughly 1–2 cm from the eardrum, so the sound pressure level (SPL) delivered directly to your cochlea is substantially higher than what you’d get from desktop monitors at the same perceived loudness. That proximity is a double-edged sword: great detail retrieval and imaging for positional cues like footsteps and ability audio, but it also means your basilar hair cells take a beating faster. On isolation, most tournament-grade IEMs rely on passive isolation, not ANC—the seal quality of your ear tip matters far more than any chip. Foam tips typically give you 20–25 dB of attenuation versus silicone’s 15–18 dB, which is why I’ve seen players switch to foam just to cut the 90+ dB crowd/system bleed in big arenas. The tradeoff is foam degrades with earwax and needs replacing, while silicone can slip during long sets.
Historically, esports went from open-ear headsets

Brandon WrightMemberPlay on 360Hz for two weeks and try switching back to 144Hz; it literally feels like screen tearing.
