LEGO has partnered with Sony PlayStation to create a meticulously detailed, brick-built recreation of the original PlayStation console, with the highly anticipated set officially launching this week. Following the successful release of its Nintendo Entertainment System, Atari 2600, and Sega Genesis sets, LEGO is now bringing the iconic 1994 Japanese launch console to life in 1,911 pieces. The LEGO PlayStation set, product number 72306, becomes available to LEGO Insiders members on October 1 and to the general public on October 4, available directly from LEGO.com.
The set is designed to replicate the original PlayStation at “near 1:1 scale,” capturing the distinctive angular design that defined the ninth generation of gaming consoles. Enthusiasts can build both the console unit and its signature controller in LEGO brick form, alongside several dioramas that pay homage to PlayStation’s early history. A standout feature is a functioning “Open” button located on the front-right corner of the build, which triggers a spring-loaded lid to reveal the nostalgic scenes hidden inside. Beneath the lid sits a large LEGO recreation of the classic “PS” logo, accompanied by mini dioramas based on 1997’s and 1999’s .
A Growing Console Collection
At 1,911 pieces, the LEGO PlayStation sits in the middle of LEGO’s video game console lineup. It is smaller than the LEGO Atari 2600, which contains 2,532 pieces, and the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System, which holds 2,646 pieces, but considerably larger than the LEGO Sega Genesis at 480 pieces. Each console in the series has featured varied extras, including a retro television set for the LEGO NES and multiple game cartridges for the LEGO 2600, reinforcing the collection’s appeal to adult collectors.
The official specifications confirm the set is aimed at adults, carrying an 18+ age rating. Measuring over 2.5 inches (6 cm) high, 10.5 inches (26 cm) wide, and 7.5 inches (19 cm) deep, the finished model offers a substantial display piece. Pricing is set at $179.99 in the United States, alongside an RRP of £139.99 in the United Kingdom and €159.99 across Europe, reflecting the premium nature of LEGO’s adult-focused Creator Expert-style releases.

After bringing the Nintendo Entertainment System, Atari 2600, and Sega Genesis to life in brick form, LEGO is teaming up with PlayStation for a new retro console recreation.

The announcement has generated significant excitement among both LEGO collectors and PlayStation fans, many of whom have long sought officially licensed gaming memorabilia. The collaboration marks a notable moment for brand partnerships in the collector space, merging LEGO’s build-centric hobby with PlayStation’s rich gaming heritage. Community reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans praising the attention to detail and the inclusion of playable mechanical features like the spring-loaded lid.
Looking Ahead
LEGO’s PlayStation set will officially be released on October 1 for LEGO Insiders and October 4 for everyone. It will be available from LEGO.com. As demand for retro gaming collectibles continues to grow, this release cements LEGO’s position as a leading creator of licensed gaming memorabilia, inviting a new generation of fans to rebuild the memories of PlayStation’s groundbreaking debut console one brick at a time.
