One week after confirming that his long-rumored new project had been abandoned by PlayStation and rescued by Xbox, Hideo Kojima has delivered a significant update on the upcoming action-espionage title. During a video posted Wednesday alongside Microsoft’s official channels, the Metal Gear and Death Stranding creator announced that acclaimed actor Bill Skarsgård has joined the cast in a leading role, while also confirming that development of the game—internally referred to as “Physint”—is making steady progress.
The announcement arrives at a pivotal moment for Kojima Productions’ first project outside Konami. After more than half a decade of speculation surrounding an unannounced title bearing the codename OD, the studio has finally begun pulling back the curtain on its Xbox-exclusive future. According to Kojima, the game is shaping up to be a defining work in his extensive career.
A Bold Vision for “Action-Espionage”
Before unveiling new casting news, Kojima framed the project as a culmination of his four-decade-long tenure in interactive entertainment. He described the title as “the culmination of more than 40 years of my career: a project that will redefine ‘action-espionage,’ unbound by any existing genres in digital entertainment.”
The statement carries considerable weight given the genre’s history. Kojima effectively invented modern stealth gameplay through Metal Gear, the franchise that defined its category before he departed Konami under strained circumstances in 2015 to establish his independent studio. That departure left fans wondering what direction the creator would pursue next, and this announcement marks the first concrete details about where he has landed.
We are long-time fans of each other’s work, and we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together.

Bill Skarsgård Takes the Lead Role
The headline revelation came when Kojima confirmed that Skarsgård—the Icelandic-Swedish actor best known for his chilling portrayal of Pennywise in IT and his lead role in Guillermo del Toro’s Nosferatu—has been cast in the game’s titular character, Physint. Footage shown during the presentation depicted Skarsgård dressed in office attire consisting of black and grey tones with various pieces of outerwear, hinting at a corporate or espionage-flavored setting for the narrative.

Kojima noted that he and the actor share a mutual appreciation for one another’s body of work before committing to the collaboration. The newly announced lead joins an already assembled ensemble cast that includes Charlee Fraser, Minami Hamabe, and Don Lee, though Kojima teased that additional casting announcements remain forthcoming as production continues.
OD Progresses Alongside New Title
Beyond the espionage project, Xbox and Kojima Productions are simultaneously advancing their collaborative horror title. The game’s full designation—revealed throughout the presentation—is OD: Knock, which received its own development update alongside the Physint news.
Kojima stated that work on OD is “progressing smoothly,” with performance capture and audio dubbing recordings resuming earlier this year after being halted during the recent SAG-AFTRA strike. The horror game features a cast including Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and the late Udo Kier in what amounts to a posthumous performance, with Get Out director Jordan Peele co-writing the story alongside Kojima.
Unlike its espionage counterpart, OD currently has no confirmed release date. Both titles represent the studio’s first major outputs since splitting from Konami, making their progress closely watched by an audience that has waited years for new Kojima content to materialize on screen.
