Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer Warhorse Studios appears to be the latest game studio hit by a cyberattack. The studio confirmed in a statement that it was affected by a cybersecurity incident and is currently assessing the extent of the damage. Czech-based Warhorse is apparently working with cybersecurity experts and “relevant authorities” as it opens an investigation.

“This is a serious incident for Warhorse Studios and everyone affected,” said Martin Frývaldský, CEO of Warhorse Studios. “Our immediate priority is to secure our systems, establish the full extent of the breach, and take the necessary steps to protect our employees, partners, and community. We are dedicating the resources needed to address this situation and will communicate further information as soon as we responsibly can.”

Warhorse said it won’t be conducting interviews or providing additional comments about the situation, and that it will share further verified information when it becomes available.

Video game studios have faced a wave of cyberattacks in recent years, with Grand Theft Otomatis 6 developer Rockstar Game arguably taking the brunt of it. In September, Rockstar was hacked by the group ShinyHunters. Before that, Cyberleeks hit the company and released stolen GTA 6 gameplay footage and, years prior, Rockstar suffered a major breach which revealed an early development build.

What games has Warhorse developed?

Warhorse Studios has developed two games, Kingdom Come: Deliverance and its 2025 sequel. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released on Feb. 4, 2025, to widespread critical acclaim and sold over 4 million copies by the end of that year. Warhorse Studios has announced it will work on a new Kingdom Come title and also revealed it’s making a game set in The Lord of the Rings‘ Middle-earth.

The studio has faced controversy over comments from its creative director and co-founder, Dan Vávra. Vávra previously described himself as a “pro-Gamergate” developer and once compared the YouTube channel Feminist Frequency to book-burning Nazis for trying to “censor” video game content.

In an ironic twist, Vávra and Warhorse were targeted by right-wing culture warriors after revealing Deliverance 2 would feature an African character and same-sex romance. Vávra defended what was in the game, saying, “Everything displayed corresponds to the morals and social norms of 1403 Bohemia and is only there to make an interesting story, and not at all to appeal to a ‘modern audience.'”

In early 2026, Vávra announced he was stepping down as the studio’s creative director and moving into a role focused on transmedia projects, like the upcoming live-action Kingdom Come: Deliverance adaptation.

Beyond the controversies around Vávra, a translator and editor at Warhorse Studios recently accused the company of replacing his job with AI. He said he handled Czech-to-English translations for the company’s games.
