Coder Swordpdf has unveiled RPS5S3, a new emulator that allows jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles to run physical PS3 discs. The announcement follows their earlier project PS5SX2, which was released roughly three days ago and enables the same functionality for physical PS2 games.
Swordpdf demonstrated the RPS5S3 emulator this morning in a post on X, booting up emulate PS2 games on jailbroken PS5s by using physical PlayStation 2 discs”>Gran Turismo 5 after inserting a physical copy of the game into their PS5’s disc tray.

The emulator is not yet available for download through GitHub, and it has not been technically finished. The latest version posted to the PS5SX2 Discord is titled “RPS5S3 Test Build 3,” meaning there is no corroborated list of compatible PS3 titles.

A post on the PS5SX2 Discord does indicate which games are currently popular with RPS5S3, naming Grand Theft Automatiskt IV, God of War: Ascension, LittleBigPlanet, inFamous, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift as the emulator’s “most played games.”
The PS5 is slowly becoming the PlayStation it should’ve been. 🎮

RPS5S3 appears to be a fork of RPCS3, the emulator that allows PS3 games to run on PC. Swordpdf has not confirmed this directly and there is no GitHub repository to validate the claim, but it is presumed to be another AI-assisted project.

Swordpdf was open about using Claude to build PS5SX2, listing it as a contributor on its GitHub page. The rapid turnaround between projects—PS5SX2 went live on October 9 and RPS5S3’s second test build appeared yesterday afternoon—suggests AI-assisted coding played a role.
The quick development marks another setback for Sony in the past two weeks, as both the PS5 jailbreaking “Relapse” method and emulation of the PlayStation 5’s OS on PC have been linked to advancements in AI-assisted coding.
