Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave has drawn attention from fans of the long-running tactical RPG series, but one question keeps surfacing among players: is there romance? The short answer is that the game does not include a formal romance system like its predecessor Fire Emblem: Three Houses featured. Instead, romantic interest between characters is conveyed through support conversations and story-driven dialogue rather than dedicated romantic scenes you can trigger at will.
The relationship between characters in Fortune’s Weave is tracked through a support level system. As allies fight together in battle and spend time alongside one another in the hub area, their support levels rise to reflect how close they become. This mechanic mirrors the series’ traditional approach to building bonds between heroes, though it stops short of offering the S-Rank romantic pairings that Three Houses made so popular.
How Support Conversations Work
As players raise a character’s support level through gameplay, they can unlock up to three support conversations, designated as rank C, B, and A scenes. These dialogues reveal how deeply certain characters are connected, and in some cases, you will see characters openly demonstrating their affection for one another.
The game does not shy away from romantic themes entirely. Esmeralda, for instance, makes no secret of her feelings for Dietrich from the very beginning of the story. Throughout the main questline, specific characters also engage in explicit romantic interactions with each other, giving players a sense that these relationships run deeper than mere battlefield camaraderie.
The Paired Ending System
Despite these moments, Fortune’s Weave does not offer a romance system where you can choose your favorite character and watch a dedicated romantic scene unfold. The closest the game comes to Three Houses’ S-Rank romance is its paired ending feature tied to Eshmel, the protagonist.

After completing the final battle, players can teleport Eshmel to another character’s location. A list of characters who have reached support level five with the protagonist then appears. Selecting one of them unlocks their S-Rank support conversation, which can be rewatched later using the Shrine of Causality located in the Obelisk Chamber.
The paired ending is not necessarily a romantic conclusion. For example, returning to Leda results in a sweet conversation about past events and future plans, with post-game summaries indicating that Eshmel has been together with Leda, though not in a romantic fashion.

This distinction matters for players who expected the kind of explicit romance options that defined Three Houses. While the bonds you build remain meaningful and can lead to heartfelt conclusions, they do not culminate in the romantic pairings that some series veterans anticipated.
Looking Ahead
For those new to Fortune’s Weave, navigating its intricate web of causality can feel overwhelming at first. The game offers a variety of systems worth mastering, from choosing which character to recruit early on to understanding how hero changes work throughout your playthrough.
The decision between casual and classic mode also shapes your experience significantly, so players should set up their campaign according to personal preference before diving in. Given the sheer size of Fortune’s Weave, it is worth considering how long it will take to complete before committing hours to the main story.
As you progress through the initial Heroic Games matches, focusing on recruiting more characters, unlocking Boons of Salvation, and making the most of your free time will pay dividends. And while romance may not be front and center, players should still remember to visit the Perch for a quick Bird Time session along the way.
