•The latest trailer for the upcoming fighting game Invincible VS introduces Agent Spider as a new downloadable content character, with the reveal deliberately echoing Marvel’s Spider-Man through both design and dialogue.
In the Invincible television series, Agent Spider appears while the titular hero is being thrown across dimensions by the villain Angstrom Levy. One portal deposits him in what appears to be New York City, where he encounters Agent Spider alongside a mechanical-armed Professor Ock — characters presented as legally distinct from their Marvel equivalents.
The two exchange quips during which it becomes evident that Agent Spider is voiced by Josh Keaton, who has portrayed Spider-Man across numerous productions. These include the Spectacular Spider-Man TV series, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and most recently Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
It really is one of those ‘Leonardo diCaprio points at screen’ moments once you recognise his voice, and it’s gracefully over before it can become a grating homage.

In the comics, Invincible was thrown through that portal directly into Spider-Man — literally landing in Doc Ock. Creator Robert Kirkman wrote 2005’s Marvel Team-Up Vol. 3 #14, which depicts the aftermath of that dimension hop.
The issue follows Spider-Man realising Invincible can only be a good guy after he apologised for crashing into him, with the two discussing their powers, pasts and motivations. Invincible also teases Spider-Man over the simplicity of his name, prompting Spidey to retort: “Do you think my name should be ‘Webbing’? Would that be cooler?”
Amazon did not acquire rights to have Spider-Man appear in the TV show, so Agent Spider was created as a substitute. The article notes appreciation for the production’s willingness to lean into the obvious parallel by casting Keaton.
No details have been given on how Agent Spider will perform in Invincible VS. However, another web-slinging character remains competitive in Tōkon, where Spider-Man still features at a high level.
