According to a report for Rock Paper Shotgun, Indigo is a “full game replacement” romhack of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that sets its story 15 years after the events of Majora’s Mask. It currently has a couple of public demos available.
The hack is playable on PC through static recompilation — the process of translating console code into C code so it runs on other platforms, which should not be conflated with generative-AI-based porting.

The project’s premise follows an older, more weathered Link who has become a hermit living in the mountains of Valana after averting the destruction of Termina and apparently giving up on tracking down his fairy friend Navi. His solitude is interrupted when Tael, a fairy from Majora’s Mask, arrives requesting help finding his sister Tatl, who vanished while exploring a long-dead Deku Tree.
The game will feature “new items, enemies, bosses, maps, and story,” according to a project download page. The tone appears comparatively sombre for the series — though the article notes that Link’s new beard complicates any serious reading of the material.
I squint at the below trailer and I ask myself: didn’t Ocarina of Time always have some kind of festively purple mushroom kingdom? … But then, Indigo throws me a lifeline in the shape of Link With A Beard. Link did not have a beard when he first graced the N64, and that was absolutely to his credit.

The developers addressed completion timelines directly in their YouTube blurb: “please stop leaving these kinds of comments, it doesn’t help us magically work faster.”
An official Ocarina of Time remake is due out in November. In the meantime, readers may instead consider a selection of Zelda-like PC games.
