HoYoverse is clearly targeting the Animal Crossing audience with its upcoming title Petit Planet, which is perhaps why the Chinese developer has focused on the Switch 2 for its forthcoming cozy game.
However, it is notable that this major Chinese developer has brought nearly all of its releases to Sony’s system since Genshin Impact, the vast open-world RPG that launched during the height of the pandemic in 2020.
It is worth noting that HoYoverse had planned to bring Genshin Impact to the original Switch years ago, but that port never came to fruition.
Petit Planet is set to launch on 4th December for PC and mobile, but during a Special Programme earlier today, the developer committed to a Switch 2 release in 2027. It did not mention any other consoles, such as the PS5.
Given that HoYoverse already has a large PlayStation fanbase, its social media accounts are already receiving questions about a PS5 version. It would not be surprising if it eventually lands on Sony’s console.
The Switch 2 does seem to make sense for this particular title, as it is evident the developer is attempting to draw players away from Animal Crossing. The cozy game format also appears to work best on mobile platforms.
But considering Tom Nook and the rest of the cast will likely return on Nintendo’s console at some point in the future, one wonders whether there might be an opportunity to bring this game to the PS5, where the only other competitor that comes to mind is Disney Dreamlight Valley and perhaps Infinity Nikki.
The developer will ask HoYoverse whether it has any plans to release Petit Planet on other platforms in the future.
