How To Unlock Skills In Phantom Blade Zero

Are you curious about how to unlock skills in Phantom Blade Zero? Various perks can be found in the “Train Abilities” menu, which is accessible whenever you interact with a bell/fast travel point. However, there are some caveats related to progression and exploration.

The Phantom Blade Zero skill unlock system

Unlocking skills in the game isn’t as straightforward as it seems. You still spend the default resource–i.e. Remnant Dust–though additional perks are locked behind the collectibles/upgrades you’ve acquired. Here’s what you need to know:

• Abilities come in three categories/rows, which have to be unlocked in sequential order (left to right).
• These categories/rows are tied to collectibles–i.e. Blackstone (attack upgrades), Sha-Chi Amber (energy upgrades), and Memory Flowers (health upgrades).
• Let’s say a skill can only be unlocked once you have 4x Blackstone. This means you need to obtain a total of 16x Blackstone Fragments through exploration. Naturally, certain perks only become available near the tail-end of the campaign once you’ve searched almost every nook and cranny.

Interconnected perks and Banyan’s Hearts

You might’ve noticed the second and fourth rows, which are between the three main categories. These are interconnected perks that can be activated (a) once the connected nodes have been unlocked and (b) if you have enough Banyan’s Hearts.

There are eight Banyan’s Hearts in the game, one for every interconnected perk/node.
