A notorious Discord hacker known as “Kata” has taken over the Discord server for Calamity, a popular mod for Terraria, and used it to promote a cryptocurrency that was subsequently pumped and dumped. The incident occurred on October 9, 2026.
The Calamity Discord server had amassed more than 250,000 members before the compromise—a large community for a decade-old mod whose development has been abandoned since August, following a second round of child-endangerment allegations. The size of the server reportedly drew Kata’s attention.

According to reports, the takeover happened when the server’s owner was tricked into handing over access by two users pretending to be former moderators. After the scam came to light, one of those users identified themselves as Kata, a figure who has reportedly hacked dozens of popular Discord servers over the past two years.

During an hour-long window before the compromise was discovered, the server was spammed with links to a cryptocoin named after it. The coin’s value was pumped and then dumped once the community was warned about the scam.
If you are in the discord server, LEAVE THE DISCORD SERVER. If you are still in the discord server, DO NOT ENGAGE IN THEIR CRYPTO.

Moderators on the r/CalamityMod subreddit issued an emergency post warning users to leave the server and avoid engaging with the cryptocurrency during the incident. The announcement came shortly after a server-wide ping had briefly given some community members hope that the mod might return.

A former moderator later wiped the contents of the Calamity server, stating they were able to remove all channels and messages because the hackers had overlooked their admin powers. However, Kata and another user—likely an alternate account or a friend—are reportedly still attempting to continue the scheme.
The only remaining channel, titled “#announce,” contains messages from one of the hackers claiming that “no crypto slop will be posted” anymore and noting that “some wrong people got permissions.” Tens of thousands of users have left the server in the two days following the incident.
