Revealed ahead of the highly anticipated sequel’s 2026 launch, the Vice City Collection has drawn sharp criticism from the fanbase, who argue the price tag lacks sufficient value and echo complaints about the studio’s past collector offerings. The backlash centers on big-ticket inclusions like a custom pair of Oakley sunglasses, a physical map of the game’s fictional state of Leonida, and a host of themed replicas, prompting comparisons to cheaper, more game-inclusive editions from Rockstar’s own catalog.
The set’s exorbitant cost is largely attributed to luxury items that inflate the overall price. Oakley sunglasses, which typically retail between $150 and $200, are among the most expensive components of the collection, and a custom pair likely pushed the total to the four-hundred-dollar mark. Combined with a coke mirror, a snuff spoon, a razor keychain, and other in-game item replicas, the package represents the most expensive Rockstar collector’s edition to date. Even devoted fans appear reluctant to open their wallets, with many expressing a preference for purchasing individual merchandise pieces rather than funding what they view as an overpriced sunglasses pair.
Fans Draw Lines to Rockstar’s Own Past Editions
The outrage has taken on a distinctly nostalgic tone, with community members pointing to how collector editions have evolved over the years. One fan summed up the sentiment bluntly, noting that the price feels unjustified without a steelbook copy of the game included. “I’d rather save my money and buy some individual merch items that look cool rather than some overpriced sunglasses,” they said.
“If this was 2016, they’d have an Ultimate Edition for $129.99 that includes the game, the coke mirror, the snuff spoon, the razor keychain and a map, but we live in 2026 SuperHell.”

Historically, Rockstar has offered more game-inclusive special editions across its franchise. GTA 5 featured a $79.99 version with a steelbook, a blueprint map of San Andreas, digital content, and a physical copy of the game, alongside a $150 edition that added a New Era 9FIFTY snapback hat, a security deposit bag with a themed key, and a premium storage box. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped a similar collector’s box without the game for around $100, featuring trinkets and replicas such as a physical version of the store catalog.

Notably, Red Dead Redemption 2’s western sequel also offered two smaller-scale special editions priced at $79.99 and $99.99. The former included a special physical map and digital content for the story mode, while the latter bundled everything from the previous edition plus a steelbook and special online content.
Uncertainty Over the Standard Edition’s Contents
A separate point of contention involves the physical map of Leonida. Rockstar has traditionally bundled a poster or map with previous GTA and Red Dead titles, and fans are now worried that the standard boxed copy of GTA 6 may not include one. “I remember this used to come with the normal physical copy of the game,” expressed one concerned fan.
It remains unclear whether the standard edition will ship with a map, and IGN has reached out to Rockstar for clarification. Still, the lack of an official response has not stopped speculation from spreading. It is worth noting that GTA 6 will not release on a physical disc; instead, the physical edition will include a code in the box. Physical copies are scheduled to arrive on November 12, a week before the game’s launch, to allow players to pre-load the title.
Beyond the collector’s set, Rockstar is catering to superfans with additional physical goods, including a CD and vinyl of GTA 6’s soundtrack and limited edition DualSense controllers. These items round out the studio’s broader strategy of monetizing the game’s cultural footprint well beyond the base product.
