The fallout from the massive GTA 6 leak continues, with legal battles now escalating. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, has reportedly filed subpoenas targeting Discord and Microsoft in a federal district court, seeking extensive user data related to the leaks. This move aims to identify those responsible for sharing pre-release footage and source code online.

Discord Responds

Initially, reports surfaced indicating that both Discord and Microsoft had received these subpoenas. However, Discord’s marketing director, Ryan K. Rigney, has since clarified the situation. “I can share an update on this: Discord has not yet been served with a subpoena from Take-Two,” he stated on X. “When we do, we’ll evaluate the validity and scope before responding.” This suggests that while the legal paperwork may be filed, Discord hasn’t officially received the formal request for information.

The concern among some Discord users stems from the potential breadth of the subpoena. If served, it could impact a significant number of users who were members of specific Discord servers where the leaked content was shared. The worry is that even innocent users might be caught in the net.

Microsoft’s Cooperation

While Discord is still awaiting formal service, Microsoft has confirmed its cooperation with Take-Two and Rockstar Games. Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet stated on X: “We are working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to support efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property.” This suggests that Microsoft is providing access to relevant data, including OneDrive information and Xbox account details linked to Discord users.

According to the filing , Take-Two’s request includes registration emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, connected accounts, and device identifiers for all user accounts that were members of specific Discord communities from June 1st. This broad scope highlights the seriousness with which Take-Two is pursuing those responsible for the leak. The legal battle is far from over, and its outcome will likely have implications for online communities and data privacy moving forward.
