GTA 6 and Fire Emblem Share an Unexpected Sea Beast Connection

Rockstar Games has revealed a new box of Grand Theft Auto 6 collectibles priced at $400 that deliberately excludes the game itself, and in doing so has drawn attention to a surprising thematic overlap between the upcoming Vice City crime saga and the tactical role-playing game Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave — both feature large, manatee-like marine creatures. The collectible box, which includes a shot glass, sunglasses, and a ballcap, was unveiled this week and has reignited conversation about the recurring presence of sea beasts across two of 2026’s most anticipated releases.

A Collectibles Box That Skips the Game

According to Rockstar, the premium box is aimed at fans who already own the game and want to display the franchise’s signature memorabilia. The package features a pair of sunglasses, a ballcap, and a novelty shot glass branded “Chunkee the Manatee,” which references the in-universe animated series Macca the Gator. Promotional imagery also shows characters wearing turquoise football jerseys emblazoned with Manatees branding, a clear nod to Vice City’s Miami-inspired aesthetic. The absence of a physical game copy reflects Rockstar’s ongoing decision not to release physical editions of the title, though the company has indicated it will continue to offer such merchandise to collectors.

The manatee theme runs deeper than the box art. Within the game’s fictional world, the animated show Macca the Gator has become a cultural touchstone, and the Manatees football club jerseys signal a broader embrace of marine motifs throughout the Vice City setting.

Sea Beasts in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

The connection becomes more than a coincidence when viewed alongside Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which centers its narrative around a cast of characters who battle carnivorous seals — described as sea beasts with bulbous noses that prey on coastal villages. In one early sequence, the playable trio of Dietrich, Fabio, and Esmeralda rescue Esmeralda from cultists who have bound her for a human sacrifice to appease these creatures. The franchise’s commitment to marine life extends beyond combat, with the game’s world of Leonida featuring sea-beast motifs woven throughout its culture and environment.

While manatees and seals are rare subjects in mainstream gaming, the trend appears to be gaining momentum. Frontier Developments, the studio behind the upcoming simulation Planet Zoo 2, confirmed earlier this week that the West Indian Manatee would be one of the aquatic mammals players can add to their virtual menagerie. The title is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on October 13.

“Outside Pokémon’s adorable Gen 1 good-boy Seel, you don’t see a whole lot of pinnipeds and sirenians in video games. There’s still time to make 2027 the year of seals, otters, manatees, and dugongs.”

The Polygon writer’s observation captures a genuine gap in the industry. Cat-collecting minigames and puppy-petting mechanics are a dime a dozen these days, yet oceanic subjects remain comparatively underrepresented. The convergence of GTA 6, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and Planet Zoo 2 suggests that marine life may be filling that void, at least for now.

Looking Ahead

As both Rockstar and Frontier Developments push their respective titles toward release, the recurring theme of marine life points to a broader appetite for oceanic subjects in interactive entertainment. Whether these appearances represent a genuine industry trend or simply the natural diversity of game worlds remains to be seen, but the overlap has already captured the attention of fans and critics alike. For now, the manatee connection stands as a lighthearted reminder that even the most disparate games can share unexpected common ground.
