Hold onto your controllers, horror fans! After over a decade of waiting, Sony has officially announced Until Dawn 2, and it’s slated for release in January 2027. Developed internally at PlayStation by Firesprite and Dispatch’s Ad Hoc studio, this sequel promises to deliver the same heart-pounding choices and terrifying consequences that made the original a cult classic.
A New Generation of Horror
Until Dawn 2 appears to center around a group of young, aspiring content creators who run a ghost-hunting YouTube show called Dead True. According to the PlayStation blog, their journey begins at Blackwood Sanitorium, nestled in the snowy mountains (yes, Blackwood is back!), before leading them to HorrorCon and eventually a remote South Pacific island. Expect plenty of gruesome encounters and, as always with Until Dawn, prepare for some truly shocking character deaths.
Choices That Matter
Like its predecessor, Until Dawn 2 will put players in the driver’s seat, forcing them to make critical decisions that impact the story and determine who lives or dies. Remember how you could guide the narrative in the original game to ensure everyone survived (or didn’t)? Expect similar possibilities here, although we can assume the strict autosave system will return, meaning you’ll have to live with the consequences of your actions.
A Familiar Face Returns
Adding another layer of nostalgia, Peter Stormare is reprising his role as Dr. Hill, the psychiatrist from the original Until Dawn. Pre-order editions of the game will include exclusive cosmetic content for his character. In the first game, Dr. Hill appeared between chapters in what seemed to be therapy sessions, questioning the player’s decisions. It seems he could serve a similar role in Until Dawn 2, offering cryptic clues and psychological insights.
