Gemini App Lets You Share Chats & Canvases to Google Drive

The Gemini app is receiving a significant update that reshapes team collaboration: Google has enabled secure sharing of chats, canvases, and AI‑generated media directly through Google Drive.

According to Google, this new workspace sharing capability is built on the same core technology that powers Google Drive, and it adopts the familiar Docs and Sheets interface. When users share a conversation, they send a snapshot of the thread up to that moment; any subsequent dialogue from the recipient does not overwrite the original owner’s version.

For Google Workspace customers, the feature is enabled by default and automatically respects existing domain file‑sharing policies. Administrators now have a dedicated control in the Google Admin Console to decide whether employees can share their Gemini conversations both internally and externally.

To configure this, admins navigate to the Generative AI settings within the Gemini app section, where they can toggle public link sharing and Drive sharing separately. These settings can be applied to specific organizational units or groups, and the rollout to the Admin console began on May 28, 2026. Workspace users on both the Rapid and Scheduled Release domains will encounter the new feature on June 3rd, with the full deployment slated to conclude by June 8th.
