Gears of War: E-Day’s online services have been disrupted by distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, according to the game’s studio. The attacks were apparently aimed at overloading the title’s servers.
The Gears of War community X account flagged the issue after a series of updates concerning login problems, stating: “Earlier today, some players experienced intermittent disconnects, login issues, or other service disruptions in Gears of War: E-Day. These issues were due to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting our online services.

“Our teams are continuing to monitor and mitigate this activity. We’ll provide updates if there are any significant changes. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

The official Xbox account also confirmed the situation on X, writing: “Service for Gears of War: E-Day is back to normal. Thanks for your patience while we worked to resolve the issue,” alongside a link to track support updates.
This marks a rocky launch for an entry widely regarded as a notable addition to the series. Dom awarded Gears of War: E-Day four stars in Eurogamer’s review, describing it as “a game of contrasts.” He wrote: “Though there’s still plenty of waist-high cover, ebb-and-flow firefighting, and braindead machismo, Gears E-Day proves that looking back can, indeed, help you look forward, too.”
This is not the first time this year that a game’s online features have been affected by DDoS attacks. In January, Arc Raiders and The Finals were reportedly hit by “coordinated” attacks, while Final Fantasy XIV was seemingly targeted by similar activity around the same period.
The studio has said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates should there be any significant changes.
