From Orc Hunter to Warrior: The Story Behind Gamer24h’s First MMO Character

September 24, 2026 · Gamer24H Editorial Team

A veteran of the MMO genre has opened up about the character that defined their entry into the online role-playing space: Maldirr, an Orc Warrior in Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, who first appeared on the digital horizon around 2005. In a candid retrospective shared with Gamer24h, the gamer recounts how a simple misclick at the character creation screen transformed what was meant to be an Orc hunter into one of the most enduring figures in their gaming history, a tale that captures the nostalgia and serendipity that has shaped a generation of fantasy MMORPG players.

The story, illustrated by two images of the character, begins well before Maldirr ever took to the streets of Stormwind. The gamer’s true first forays into the MMO world came through a RuneScape account—later compromised during years of inactivity—and a Trandoshan force-sensitive in Star Wars Galaxies, a title they played long enough to conclude that its New Game Enhancements were, frankly, bad. It was only after countless hours of watching cinematic raid-clear videos on WarcraftMovies.com and daydreaming about the legendary weapon names that surfaced when they Googled their way to Thottbot that the decision to invest in a subscription became inevitable.

The Misclick That Changed Everything

With their parents footing the bill for a WoW subscription, the gamer set out with a clear vision: an Orc hunter. The intention was sound, the fantasy well-worn, and the plan meticulously considered. What happened next, however, was anything but.

“I misclicked,” the poster admits, noting that they only realized they were playing a warrior after noticing their new character didn’t have a bow. Rather than abandon the creation, they chose to roll with it, and Maldirr remained their WoW main for years, Mortal Striking his way through casual Arms DPS rotations across somewhere in the neighborhood of four expansions.

The image of Maldirr in his early days captures the essence of that era—unassuming, unremarkable, yet brimming with potential. It is a quiet reminder that some of the most memorable gaming experiences are born not from careful planning, but from the willingness to embrace the unexpected.

More Than Just a Main

As the years passed, the thrill of big Execute numbers eventually gave way to other curiosities, and the gamer began spreading their time across a growing roster of characters. There was the Worgen rogue, then the undead mage, and finally the dwarf shaman—who, the poster notes, receives the most attention during the couple of times a year they pay for a month of subscription time.

Yet despite these diversions, Maldirr never truly faded into the background. “When I get those resurgent bouts of the WoW bug, I still try to put a few levels into Maldirr for old times’ sake,” the gamer explains. In one of the images, Maldirr is shown with his hair changed from brown to gray—a subtle nod to the passage of time—but he remains wearing the same old Stone Guard tabard, an artifact earned from too many hours spent in Alterac Valley, when there was nowhere the gamer would rather be spending their time.

Looking Ahead

As the MMO landscape continues to evolve, with new titles and renewed interest in classic servers drawing players back to the genre, stories like Maldirr’s serve as a poignant reminder of where it all began. For this gamer, the character is more than a collection of stats and rotations; he is a living archive of a formative chapter in their gaming journey.

Whether the WoW bug strikes again or the gamer’s attention drifts toward the next adventure, one thing remains certain: the misclick that turned an Orc hunter into a warrior was, in the end, the perfect beginning.
