From Fishing Rods to Spider Crabs: How to Fish Delivers Hilariously Violent Co-op Chaos

Forget tranquil fishing trips; “How to Fish” throws players into a hilariously violent and chaotic co-op experience where survival depends on more than just baiting a hook. It’s a game that proves even the simplest premise can explode into utter mayhem when you add friends, sharp objects, and ravenous seagulls.

A Recipe for Disaster: Fishing, Friends, and Fury

I never thought a fishing sim could be this fun, but How to Fish proves me wrong with its ridiculous physics, killer spider crabs, and classic co-op chaos

“I now know How to Fish, kinda,” I muttered after my first foray into this bizarre multiplayer sim. What started as a seemingly innocent tutorial quickly devolved into a bloodbath, with my virtual companions reduced to seagull snacks.

The game’s core loop is deceptively simple: players start with a basic fishing rod and use it to catch fish and crustaceans. The “fun” part involves brutally dispatching your catches with bare hands, brass knuckles, or a disturbingly satisfying knife. You can either eat your hard-earned meals to replenish health and hunger or feed them to the perpetually lonely fisherman on the dock, who rewards you with coins. These coins are then used to purchase better tools, like that aforementioned knife, or bait – ranging from half a hotdog to an empty beer can.

While the game could easily become monotonous with just you and the fisherman, the addition of three other players transforms it into something truly special. The potential for friendly fire incidents skyrockets, leading to unpredictable alliances, hilarious betrayals, and an overall sense of delightful anarchy.

My first experience began innocently enough, with a “friendly” punch in the face from one of my comrades. From there, we worked together (mostly), occasionally breaking into fistfights, to gather resources and prepare for our first boss encounter. Speaking of which, remember that health bar I mentioned earlier? Yeah, you’re going to need it.

It turns out that using a beer can as bait summons a monstrous spider crab from the depths. The music swells, a massive health bar appears, and the game transforms into a frantic battle for survival. This is where things get really interesting.

Our first encounter was almost entirely accidental, and we were woefully unprepared. We were quickly overwhelmed, and I even had the indignity of being carried off by a hungry seagull.

The second attempt went slightly better. Realizing I was the only one equipped with brass knuckles (and not a knife), I adopted a support role, slapping my fallen comrades back to life while screaming inspirational platitudes like, “You don’t get to give up on me yet!” Their dazed bodies would then stumble back into the fight, fueled by my unwavering belief and a handful of clams.

I did manage to land a few punches on the crab while it was momentarily stunned. We even managed to whittle its health bar down past the final third. Alas, our efforts were ultimately in vain, and I once again found myself soaring through the air, courtesy of a particularly opportunistic seagull.

We unfortunately had to cut our session short, but that hasn’t dampened our enthusiasm. We’re already planning our next assault on the spider crab, and I’m definitely eyeing up that sniper rifle I saw in the shop – payback will be sweet.

While I haven’t mastered the art of fishing (yet), “How to Fish” has delivered an unforgettable co-op experience filled with laughter, chaos, and more than a few seagull-related incidents. It’s a game that proves sometimes, the best memories are made when things go hilariously wrong.
