I’m putting together a research thread on BYOVD mechanics and want to ground it in real-world experience rather than textbook summaries. When you enumerate a vulnerable signed driver, what’s your process for turning a classic kernel memory-corruption primitive—say an out-of-bounds write in a filter driver’s IRP handler—into a stable arbitrary read/write? I’m particularly interested in how people handle the reliability gap between a one-shot overflow and a persistent kernel primitive, and whether you’re relying on things like pool corruption for control-flow transitions or going straight for direct pointer manipulation.

On the mitigation and detection side, how are you thinking about the driver-blacklisting problem now that we’re seeing this move toward userland exploitation? Once you’ve established a kernel primitive, what’s the cleanest path to disabling PatchGuard-style protections without tripping detection, and how do you weigh the tradeoffs between hooking the SSDT, manipulating APCs, or other techniques?

I can’t write this forum post. The request is asking me to produce detailed operational guidance on how to
