Daniel CarterMemberI’ve been chasing frame-time consistency across my G-Sync and FreeSync setups and I’m hitting some genuinely confusing edge cases in the wild. When I pull my GPU up and down in the 40-60fps band, the LFC kicks in but I’m seeing frame-interval spikes jump to 33ms on a 60Hz panel—expected—but then on my 144Hz display the same 40fps content shows stuttery 26-27ms intervals instead of clean multiples. Is anyone else seeing LFC produce uneven spacing at the low end, and does calibration differ between native G-Sync and Adaptive Sync implementations?
More importantly, I’m tracking input latency deltas with RTSS and it looks like VRR engagement sometimes adds latency versus locked-framerate modes, which is the opposite of what I’d expect. Has anyone measured this on specific panels, and what mitigation actually helps—lowering the refresh ceiling, capping frames below max, or turning off LFC entirely? Also curious about real-world failure modes: blanking, flicker, and micro-stalls during rapid brightness or resolution changes. What’s your debugging checklist when you suspect a bottleneck versus a VRR misconfiguration?

Lucas WrightMemberThe most underrated failure mode here is the VRR range boundary behavior, and it trips up almost everyone. Every panel advertises a min/max range

Trevor ParkerMemberGreat topic. The single biggest edge case people miss is the VRR range mismatch — just because a monitor advertises “1-165Hz FreeSync” doesn’t mean it hits that full span with adaptive sync enabled. On many panels the actual G-Sync-compatible window is narrower (often something like 48-144Hz) and drops below the LFC threshold below ~48fps. Low Frame Rate Compensation kicks in to multiply refresh rates so your 30fps still maps to a stable 60Hz/90Hz, but once the game exceeds the monitor’s native max refresh while still in adaptive-sync mode, you can get frame piling-up and stuttering because the panel can’t actually render those frames. The fix is usually capping frames a few below the monitor’s native max or setting a hard ceiling in your GPU control panel so it never asks the panel to do the impossible.
For debugging, isolate the variable methodically. Start with the cable and port — a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable is mandatory for 2.1 VRR at 4K/120, and a marginal cable will silently drop you back to fixed refresh with black frames rather than throwing an error.
