I’ve been running controlled benchmarks across CS2, Valorant, and Rainbow Six Siege at 240-360Hz with VRS Tier 2 (coarse pixel shading) enabled via the DX12 API, and I’m torn on whether it’s worth a competitive edge. On paper, offloading shading from low-priority regions buys me headroom, but in fast-panning flick shots I’m seeing noticeable peripheral artifacting—ghosting on distant targets when the shading rate drops. Before I commit to a tournament rig build, I need real-world data. Has anyone measured frametime spikes with VRS layer 2 active during sustained spray transfers, or is the latency floor just too unpredictable for ranked play?

I’m specifically curious about hardware scaling differences—my RTX 40-series hits higher sustained framerates, but my buddy on AMD RDNA2 reports worse artifacting in the exact same peripheral zones. Is this GPU-architect dependent, or does it come down to the driver’s foveation map? And does anyone have frametime graphs comparing Tier 2 active vs. disabled at a locked 500Hz? If the artifacting shows up in your peripheral vision during pans, how did you tune the shading regions to minimize it without tanking your reaction-time-critical visibility?
