I’ve been A/B testing raw sensor mode versus smoothed reporting across different USB frame intervals, and the latency-vs-stability tradeoff is more nuanced than vendors admit. When you’re pushing 2000-4000Hz polling, does the sensor’s internal motion buffering still apply interpolation before the report reaches the host, or is it truly deterministic at that point? And more importantly—how are you handling timestamp alignment between the HID report interval and the OS input queue? I keep seeing input jitter on 8ms boundaries that disappears when you sync to the display refresh, but I can’t isolate whether that’s the driver or the polling pipeline.

On the historical side, legacy smoothing algorithms from the earlier generation clearly sacrificed tracking fidelity for stability, but I’m curious whether anyone’s profiled how modern predictive motion estimation compares in a competitive FPS context. Does anyone have real-world data on whether predictive buffering actually reduces perceived input lag, or does it just mask it until you hit a micro-stutter? And where do you draw the line on polling rate before diminishing returns kick in for actual aim tracking? What’s your setup and what have you measured?
