Been chasing micro-stutter in competitive shooters and I think ReBAR config is where my frame times are bleeding. I’ve got a 7000-series APU paired with an RDNA2 card, Resizable BAR enabled in BIOS with full VRAM visibility confirmed via GPU-Z, but I’m still seeing occasional 1% lows spiking during extended sessions. My question: for anyone running smart access memory in a competitive rig, have you hit inconsistent frame pacing that correlates with GPU memory pressure, and did disabling ReBAR actually stabilize it or just mask the bottleneck? I’ve read that without proper bus transaction batching the CPU can stall on large texture fetches—does anyone have hard data on where that failure boundary sits, or is it mostly anecdotal?

Also digging into the memory allocation side: when the driver maps the full VRAM range, how do you differentiate ReBAR-induced stutter from generic VRAM thrashing in the 16MB aperture fallback? I’ve seen reports of stutter spikes when cross-playing with anti-cheat drivers, and I’m wondering if that’s a PCIe transaction issue or something in the driver stack. Has anyone successfully traced a ReBAR-related frame drop to its root cause with tools like PIX or GPU View, or is debugging this mostly trial and error? Would love to hear how you’ve isolated the actual culprit.

Here’s my take from tuning configs across multiple rigs. The first thing I always verify is that ReBAR is actually active and sized correctly, because a lot of “frame drop” complaints trace back to a half-configured BAR rather than a perf regression. In GPU-Z, open the Sensors tab and confirm BAR1 (or the “Big BAR” size on newer cards) reads at the full VRAM capacity—on a 24GB card it should show close to 24GB, not the 256MB legacy default.

The core thing most people miss when chasing ReBAR frame consistency is that the 256

Hey everyone, quick follow-up to close this out: I finally dug into the BIOS and turned off the “Above 4G Decoding” /Resizable BAR toggle (plus reset the primary GPU to PCIe Gen4 instead of letting it auto-negotiate Gen5), and the dropped frames completely stopped. Turns out my RX 7800 XT was tripping into some weird fallback state with Smart Access Memory when the system was trying to negotiate link speeds during heavy asset streaming, causing those micro-stutters I was seeing every ~10 minutes. Following the advice in this thread to lock the PCIe link and disable ReBAR until I could test more carefully was the fix. Thanks for all the help sorting through the failure modes—super glad I didn’t end up swapping hardware unnecessarily!
