Alright, let’s talk real physics here because I’ve been down the rabbit hole on mouse weight reduction and the numbers aren’t adding up the way the marketing wants us to believe. Everyone drops the “lighter mouse = faster reactions” talking point, but they never mention where the mass is actually located. When you bore out the shell for a weight kit, does the center of gravity shift toward the front or stay centered, and how much does that moment arm change the rotational inertia during a flick? I’m trying to understand the actual torque your wrist has to overcome for a micro-correction, not just the raw gram count.

Here’s what’s really got me thinking: honeycomb structural reduction versus removing internal skeleton components—do either of these meaningfully alter the polar moment of inertia, or are we just fooling ourselves with gram wars? And on the physiological side, at what point does reduced mass actually delay muscular fatigue during a long session, versus just the placebo of holding something light? I’ve read that the energy cost of a rapid acceleration scales with the square of the movement distance times the moment of inertia, but I want real-world data from people who actually track and snap. What’s your setup, and have you noticed a tangible difference in control when you’ve modified your mouse’s weight distribution?

The first thing most people get wrong in this debate is treating “weight reduction” as a single scalar win, when what actually governs micro-corrections is the mass distribution relative to your rotation axis, not just total grams. When you snap-correct with a wrist or finger flick, you’re rotating the mouse about an axis that usually passes somewhere near the palm contact point, not dead-center. That means the relevant quantity is
