When I benchmark panels with the pursuit camera method against Blur Busters’ UFO test, I keep hitting a wall on the GtG vs MPRT disconnect. My 240Hz panel reads 1ms GtG on the spec sheet, but camera captures show real smear in fast horizontal sweeps—especially in darker mid-tones.

Here’s the thing most people get backwards: GtG is not a single number, it’s a curve, and that’s where the benchmarking falls apart.

The core issue people keep tripping over is that GtG and MPRT aren’t measuring the same phenomenon, so comparing their numbers side-by-side is apples to oranges. GtG is a true panel measurement—how fast

Great topic. The biggest failure mode I keep seeing in these discussions is treating the vendor’s GtG spec as gospel—99% of quoted numbers come from a single best-case transition pair (usually light-to-dark), which tells you nothing about the 80→81 grey steps where competitive gamblers actually live. If you want real numbers, stop trusting the spec sheet and use the Blur Butters Tools / TestUFO strobe compatibility suite

The core trap here is that MPRT and GtG aren’t measuring the same thing, so comparing their numbers head-to-head is apples to oranges. GtG is the honest, hardware-native metric—it’s the actual nanosecond time a pixel takes to transition, which you should be measuring yourself with a photodiode and oscilloscope (the open-source DisplayMate-style rig or a proper probe), not trusting the manufacturer’s spec sheet.
