I’ve been running Pursuit camera measurements against the Blur Busters UFO test on a few panels, and the MPRT versus GtG disconnect keeps bugging me. When a panel advertises sub-1ms GtG yet motion blur at full refresh still looks softer than a strobe-backed display, where does the discrepancy actually live? Is it the rise versus fall

Here’s the thing most people get backwards: MPRT and GtG measure two completely different things, so comparing their numbers directly is apples to oranges. GtG is your actual pixel response time—how quickly a pixel transitions between grey levels, measured in milliseconds. This is what creates ghosting and trailing when you whip your camera fast. MPRT, on the other hand, isn’t a true panel metric at all; it’s a perceived-motion-blur figure that manufacturers achieve through backlight strobing (think ULMB, DyAc, or ELMB). They’re essentially flashing the backlight on and off between frames to reduce persistence, which tricks your eye into seeing cleaner motion. So when a monitor advertises “1ms MPRT,” that

The core confusion in this thread is that GtG and MPRT measure fundamentally different things, so comparing their numbers head-to-head is apples to oranges. GtG is the panel’s actual pixel transition time—typically measured between two grey levels (often the 10% to 90% or 800-to-200 grey transition)—and it’s what genuinely determines ghosting and smearing on your screen. MPRT, on the other hand, isn’t a true panel spec at all; it’s a motion
