I’ve been running back-to-back benchmarks across GDDR6X and GDDR7 cards in CS2, Valorant, and Overwatch 2 at 1440p and 4K, chasing frametime consistency more than raw average FPS. The Infinity Cache behavior on higher-capacity parts is where I’m seeing wild variance in 1% lows, and I’m not sure whether it’s the bus width or the cache hit rate doing the heavy lifting at high refresh rates. For anyone who’s actually profiled this with capframex or presentmon—when you’re pushing 240Hz+ in a competitive title, at what point does memory bandwidth stop being the bottleneck and become irrelevant? And how much of the frametime improvement are you seeing from the cache alone versus the raw GDDR7 bandwidth bump?

I’ve noticed the higher-capacity Infinity Cache cards hold steady frametimes even when the bus width is narrower, which contradicts what I’d expect from pure bandwidth math. Is that cache efficiency mostly helping at 4K where texture streaming dominates, or does it actually matter at 1440p in esports where draw distances are short and the workload is more CPU-bound? Also, has anyone tested how these memory configs scale when paired with current-gen CPUs versus older platforms—I want to isolate whether my frametime gains are coming from the GPU memory subsystem or just less CPU contention. Any real-world tuning data or specific frametime graphs would help me figure out where to actually spend my money.

Straight talk on the numbers before the marketing kicks in: the real story isn’t just raw bandwidth, it’s bandwidth efficiency. GDDR6X on the 4090 hits roughly 1008 Gbps at 21 Gbps effective, and GDDR7 pushes into the 1.5 TB+ range on the same 256-bit bus by switching to differential clock

"Lag isn’t an excuse, but it definitely wasn’t my fault."
