“When discussing server-side lag compensation, the ring buffer depth has genuinely been my biggest headache. I’ve seen configs retaining up to 200ms of history, but on 128-tick servers that’s brutal on memory overhead. What’s the practical sweet spot for buffer retention before you start losing replay accuracy?

The core of server-side lag compensation really comes down to historical simulation, and most competitive shooters implement it by storing a rolling buffer of player snapshots rather than just rendering the latest state.

The core of modern server-side lag compensation is essentially a replay buffer, not magic. What the server actually does is store a rolling history of authoritative entity positions (and hit

Update: Alright guys, long story short — turns out none of that lag-comp stuff was actually the problem. I was tearing my hair out over the hitbox rewind jitter, convinced it was some broken server-side interpolation thing, but it turned out my XMP profile was destabilizing my RAM and causing frame-time spikes that made everything feel rubbery. Flipped that one BIOS setting you guys mentioned, ran a quick memtest, and the dropped frames are completely gone. Moral of the story: before you go writing your own compensation algorithms, check if your RAM is even running stably. Thanks for not making me feel too dumb about it.
