I’ve been running experiments with HVCI and VBS on my rig and I’m genuinely torn on the tradeoffs. When you enable Hypervisor-Protected Code Integrity, you’re essentially forcing every page table walk through SLAT (EPT/NPT), which adds an extra translation stage before the CPU even touches the TLB. My question for anyone who’s actually benchmarked this under load: what latency hit are you really seeing in practice for a memory-tight workload like a 1440p 240Hz setup? I’ve read the numbers range from 3-5% in single-threaded scenarios up to 15-20% in virtualization-heavy tasks, but I want real-world data from people running VBS alongside their competitive titles, not just Microsoft’s whitepaper estimates.

Second part: how are you managing the secure kernel memory footprint without tanking your frame pacing? I’ve noticed the hypervisor reserves a chunk of locked memory that doesn’t get paged, and on a system with limited RAM this feels risky when you’re already pushing capacity. Anyone here running a dual-boot or VM setup where the hypervisor overhead is negligible enough that the security benefits outweigh the cost? And more specifically—have you tested whether toggling HVCI on and off per-session via the boot config actually gives you the flexibility to optimize for different use cases, or does the memory reservation persist regardless?
